Monday, Feb 18, 2008Pride: Misdirected Love
(36 downloads)Download this episode (50 min)
In this sermon, we try and take the journey that moves us from pride to humility. Pride is considered by many to be one of the chief sins tainting even the good we do in this world, as well as reaching its vines into all the other sins we play in. How do we participate in the servanthood and humility of Christ in a world where pride has jumped categories moving from vice to virtue?

This week, we look at the last chaper in the Psalter - Ps. 150 and see how it is a fitting conclusion to the whole of the Psalms. We will see how worship, community and mission are all interwoven threads in the tapetsry of all that God is doing in the world. This is an exciting opportunity to remind and submit ourselves to our created purpose!

Friday, Dec 14, 2007Poetic Justice: Surrendering Violence through Imprecatory Psalms
(32 downloads)Download this episode (49 min)
This week we examine Ps. 58, one of many different Imprecatory or vengeance psalms. Do these Psalms still have a place in the life of the church? Should we still pray down curses on our enemies in light of Jesus words in the NT to love our enemies? What might it look like to include these type of prayers in our journey towards deeper union with Christ?

Sunday, Dec 02, 2007Faith in Vain: Deconstructing God's Goodness
(47 downloads)Download this episode (57 min)
This week we explore Shane's favorite Psalm - Psalm 73. It contains one of his favorite passages: "Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever" - Ps. 73:25,26.
We examine how reaching the heights of deep, intimate devotion to God often runs along side the road of fierce struggle and doubt. Surprisingly, Asaph's (the Psalmist who penned Ps. 73) crisis of faith and near loss of faith brought him to eventually author words of deep devotion and surrender to God. Psalm 73 is the story of Asaph's experience - an experience that began with deep questions and doubts about God's goodness and ends with a beautiful affirmation of deep devotion. We study together how faith deepens through doubts, questions, frustrations and even envy.
