This Sunday we move along in our series "Philippians: Learning to Perform the Gospel". We will finish Paul's thought in chapter 3. Paul reminds us at the end of chapter 3 that our "citizenship is in heaven" which is a good reminder for us in an election week. Our prayer is that churches all over the world might become little "colonies of heaven" in the middle of the cities of earth.

This Sunday we continue in our series called "Philippians: Learning to Perform the Gospel". Paul has given us the ultimate example in chapter 2:1-11 (the Christ Hymn) of a life and citizenship ordered around the Gospel, and now in 12-18 he moves to a general application of adopting a variety of practices that help us to live this gospel-centered citizenship. Paul calls the church of Philippi and the church of the 21st century to be bright stars draped across the dark, canvas sky of this world. As we learn to "download" the mind of Christ, there are certain habits, practices and dispositions that will manifest themselves in the community and will distinguish us from the mindset of a humanity tied to the 1st Adam.

We will continue our series called "Philippians: Learning to Perform the Gospel". This Sunday we will examine the famous Christ Hymn in Phil. 2:1-11. This Passage reveals to us the good news that our God stoops. The Originater and Cosmic Glue of the Universe stoops to serve humanity. He then calls the church to join Him in this planet saving endeavor, by adopting His same mind-set. All of mankind's relational sickness and disease could be healed through the chemo and antidote of Jesus mindset in Phil. 2.

This week we will begin our new series in Philippians. We will call our series "Philippians: Learning to Perform the Gospel". This Sunday we will examine the first chapter and see the punchline of Philippians in vs 27, "Do this one thing: order your common life in a manner worthy of the gospel". This is the task Paul gives the Philippian church and it is one of the primary tasks Paul leaves the church of the 21st century. The rest of this epistle is an unfolding of communal practices of imitation in becoming like Christ as set around the pivotal Phil. 2:5-11. What does it mean for this community of Jesus to live in Philippi and to live in Christ? So we must ask 2,000 yrs. later: what does it mean for us to live in Indianapolis and also to live in Christ?
